I recently purchased a running average condition 1970 4020 gas.I listed it for sale and had a couple people that wanted to buy it without engine to repower to a diesel. What is the value of a decent complete gas motor[sorry B&D].What would the cost of repower run? basically looking for salvage value which is around $4500 complete.I have never parted one out but know what several of parts bring such as W.F.hood,fenders,and SCVs etc. Thanks

Larry, we had a gasser out of a late 105 combine that sat around for years. It is the same engine as the late 4020. We never could get any takers on it. It finally went to scrap.

I think it is one of those things in which you"ll have to be in the right place at the right time to find a buyer.

Larry,
I looked around and it took a couple weeks but I ended up getting one for $250 Complete. Local junk yards wanted a 1000k for one and I couldn't justify that as mine is for a project and I'm in no rush. I also asked the guy how often someone comes looking for one he said not often. I talked to another guy on Tuesday that had one for sale for 2 years and it sold Monday complete for 600$.. I've also heard lots of stories of guys sitting on them forever and just scrapping them. If the one I bought turns out to be junk I will give you a call.. Someone will be interested in it at the right price..

Yes, I had 3 of them setting on my rack for a few years, one was a very good one, I put in a dairy magazine for Northern Ohio, thinking one of the Dairy farmers may need one since they are good for cold weather starting,,I got One call,,the guy wanted to know what I did with the rest of the tractor.....so I junked 2 of them and gave the good one to a friend...

Given the price of gasoline vs. diesel and the cost of conversion. The people wanting to convert are living in the past when diesel was 3/4 the price of gasoline.
Far and few are the farms when the 4020 is used for 500 acres of heavy tillage. Baling 200 acres of hay. Then running the forage harvester on 200 acres of corn.
Where is the tractor located.
At least it isn't some knob wanting to convert a LP side console PS to diesel.

Tim would you happen to have a good govenor housing for a late 4020 gas laying around I would be interested in one if you did.

Larry I would also be interested in the side panels if you do part it out as well as maybe the hood. Also I would be interested in the rear axles and final drives if the axles are long and have the rack cut in all the way for 30 inch rows.

Its too bad though that every body can't see the value of a great starting gas tractor for loader work in the winter. Also the 4020 side console gas and LP are going to be getting hard to find

No I don't have any gas parts,, I really don't like them, even though I know they have their place.

If the owners would check for plugged or over tightened air
cleaners. Choke blades that look open but are not. Toss the
marvel carb in the trash and use a Zenith. And ensure the
timing both initial and advance are correct and move. Then
tweak and tune advance and mixture for max economy instead
of max power. Lean is mean on idle and main. A lot of those
tractors are also missing the stat or have too cold of a stat
installed.

It sold complete with loader and is going to be used as is.It was a good runner but below average tin work and tires but had a 5020 wide front that who ever put it on did a very nice job. After I bought it I wasnt sure why as I usually buy nice tractors instead of cheap ones and this one was around salvage value.I had over 20 calls .Half to install diesel and half to use as yard tractor that would start easily in cold weather. It did have Zenith carb and would start instantly. The seller had it for sale for a while and I sold it the first day.
