I think you made a good choice. The 15 speed powershift is a wonderful transmission for all applications and the engine in the 55 series has a lot going for it in terms of cold weather starting, torque, governor response, and fuel usage. There is nothing wrong with the 4450 with the quad range, but the step up to the 55 series, in my opinion, is a much greater refinement in these tractors. I like our quad range in our 40 series, and it is fine for field work. The 8 speed powershift was also nice for on the go shifting over wide speed ranges in our 30 series, but the gaps between the upper range of gears were pretty big. I find our 60 series with the 15 speed powershift a joy to operate with an even better cab as compared to earlier models. The engine is very snappy and quick to respond to varying loads. Nothing wrong with the 40 or 50 series, but there are marked improvements with each newer succession in the line.

The 15 speed is pretty lousy for loader work. If I was buying a deere to put a loader on it I'd pay extra for any of the quad transmissions, especially a powerquad. The full powershift is too slow in reverse, is too far of a reach to shift, and I can never get it into the gear I want from a stop.

My 4255 operators manual shows a 15 speed Powershift will go 5.48 MPH in 4th reverse. How fast do you chose to back up??
