John Deere 70D Pony Motor bearings

Hi all,
Having trouble finding main bearings for pony motor main bearings and thrust washer.(Thrust I can have made if needed)

Oh, and I usually get asked if its an early or late pony. Tried searching for those differences, and from what I gather, it's just the rod's???? Or are htey referring to the R pony which is obviously different....

From what I remember those V4 ponies all had the same rods. The mains were changed at some time and the size changed. 2 different cranks also because of the main brg. size change.

Murphys Motor service has pony motor main bearings available. Don't know about the thrust washer though. Hope this helps, Mike

no what they are talking about is the crankshaft main brg. it is larger diam. on the flywheel end on the later engines

Early pony has no serial number tag, late pony has a tag.

When the black dash 720 diesels were introduced the pony engines were also changed and had s/n plates on them. The difference between early pony engines and later ones are : bigger pushrods/lifters/rockerarms, thermostats and water pump bypass tubes , larger main bearings and thrust washers and different linkages in the transmission plus a few other minor changes.

H&J machine in Carrington nd. Has cam, crank, rod bearings. Cheapest out there. Perfect quality, great guy. Bonafide 2-cyl virus carrier...

That would explain the 4 pushrods that resemble bananas. I think I'll keep the throttle speed down around 4000 rpm. Think it will produce enough juice? I live in CA where below 20 degrees is very rare....

There are early engines with small main bearings and late engines with larger main bearings, but just to confuse the issue there was an update kit that would put a new crank in an early engine...it had one small main bearing to fit the block and one larger bearing. My 70 diesel has it and was a little confusing til I read the parts book closer.

Neighbor had one that had some of those "bananna" pushrods along with broken rocker arm shaft. Had to of killed off a couple of cylinders. Funny thing was it would still start the diesel engine up !!! Just stuck some used good parts back in it and kept going.
