John deere M tail light

Did most M's have a back tail light? I bought a good original seat bottom for my M and it doesn't have holes drilled for the bracket the light goes on. Anybody have a pic to show exactly where it was mounted? In the manual looks like it mounts to left side of seat bottom.

Here"s the tail light on "Sam" one of our 51MTs.

The location should still be the same for your Model M.

James, my MT has a regular headlamp on the rear. If the picture loads, you should be able to see it.

Could this be original or an add on that replaced the bullet light?

To each his own, I stalled a Light off a Model
A the type that had the switch in the rear lite
to change from Red tail lamp to Bright White
lamp on My M.. I also installed another
headlamp on the Right Front that matchs the
other two.. I decided I wasn"t drive"n a
tractor with One headlamp.. Might not be
politcally correct but I like it.......

I don't want to steal this thread , but I would like some pictures of the belly mower drive setup, I started installing a L306 on my MT and need some insight on how to hookup te drive since it came with no brackets. if you wouldn't mine Thanks

Researched the Parts Catalog PC848 on page 90-5 for the seat assembly.

The seat bracket (Key 11) in the diagram shows two holes near the back left corner.

The part number for the M is [b:654c4848f0]AM 1579 T[/b:654c4848f0] and the part number for the MT is [b:654c4848f0]AM 952 T[/b:654c4848f0].

Found the Tail Light Assembly on page 100-3.

Hope this helps a little more.

My best guess is that it is an add-on light; although a very good idea.

Like the looks of your belt pulley attachment.

Also like the "farmer tech" brackets on each axle; very good idea.

Thanks for the help guys. I think I am going to install the bullet light on the M since I never see one at shows that have one. Found a vendor that makes the bracket for the bullet light and I already have a original bullet light tucked away for safe keeping all cleaned up and painted. Its currently black. Should it be black or green? Also what color should gas and rad caps be? Sorry for all the questions.
