bought a john deere r previous owener stated when parked it ran wide open and dumped diesel fuel into crank case where do we start want to do complet restor on tractor want to get running and fix leaks this summer and paint over winter of 2013and 2014

did he mean run wide open or over rev? First thing I would do is start it and see, being ready to pull decompression lever to stop it if throttle didn't so it wouldn't over rev also take off the pump cover and rocker arm cover and look for leaks while running. before starting make sure the pump rack isn't stuck in open position. the punps and nozzle and line are all internal whene the engine oil is. Another place that fuel can get into crankcase is the transfer pump that is in place where a mag would be if it were a gas tractor, about below the pony gas tank. however the transfer pump is double sealed so the fuel shouldn't get to the crankcase. however again there is a bleed hole between the two seals and that could be pluged there making it possible for the fuel to go passed the oil seal and into the crankcase. A place to start looking. hope this all makes sense for you, later
