I got traded a 4010 diesel tractor went to look at it cranked right up had not just been running I felt of the block and oil and the muffler. Went back several hours later to pick it up it cranked right up. Got it home it sat on my trailer over night went to it the next morning and now nothing it turns over great but will not start. I gave it a shot of starting fluid and it did not even fire . There is no air in the system i get diesel out at every injector. Plenty of diesel in it. Why will it not start back up. Why will it not fire on starting fluid I sprayed it right into the intake. It does not even act like I am even spraying any in there. What could have happened .

Come to find out my fuel pump was not working properly . Changed it I can get it to fire now on a small shot of starting fluid now all is left is to bleed the system out.

Does it smoke when you are cranking the starter? If no smoke you have a fuel problem. Remove the tach cable and see if the tach drive turns with the engine.

Are your cranking RPM's low?

Plug it in if it has an engine heater and throw a battery charger on it overnight and try again.

It's possible that the fuel valve in the injection pump isn't allowing fuel to be pumped to injectors. I don't like to use ether so I'd suggest to try and "tow" start the engine.

This would be too easy. But is it possible that throttle is in shut off position?
