I want to replace the generator belt on my John Deere 420U tractor. Looking for instuctions on how to do this. Thanks for your help.

Really? Can't be that hard. Look at the generator and belt. Find the pivot point of genny loosen it up. Then loosen the clamp bolt of genny. Push in on genny loosening belt. Remove old belt. Install new belt. Pull genny back to tighten belt. Tighten clamp bolt and mounting bolt. Your done.

My hazy recollection is that I removed the screws holding the fan shroud to the radiator. This let me move it back, and work the fan belt forward to get the generator belt through

not much room in there to work. I think the last time I changed the belt on mine I just pulled the radiator. You can remove hood to see more what you are doing. You have to drop waterpump and fan down to let gen belt under neith fan belt

It isnt that easy. There are two belts. One from the crank to the water pump pulley and then the generator belt is behind that one. I agree taking the hood, grill and radiator off is the best way to do it. Gives you the most room and access to the water pump. That belt is adjusted by turning the adjusting ring on the front of the water pump. This is also the front half of the pulley. Do them both while you are there. Check the water pump out closely too. Make sure the bearing and seal are in good condition, not leaking and smooth spinning.
