It dont 'fling' up there, things turn farthe too slow for that. it needs to be carried on the gear teeth to the top & then runs down onto bearings etc. The newer machines use oil pumps to get the oil up there.
I still think it would be fine with newer style oil though.

| | I understand that tractors werent used in the winter as much as the summer. But at 0 degrees 140 weight oil can't be fling around in there much, espcally if the gears arn't moving very fast. What gear lube weight will work good and still be able to move the shifter, without blowing a nut.
winters temps get down to -30

| I run 5w-50 synthetic in the engine & half 90w gear lube/half hytran in the tranny on my 41 A, hand cranks at -30 &the shifts decent. You just cant have any water in there.
