Piston wrist pin snap rings for an A

I looked them up on JDParts.com and for my tractor they show to be obsolete. The originals that came out were worn pretty good where the wrist pin had rubbed up against them.Is there anywhere that the snap ring is available by its self anymore? I thought about measuring them and just getting a modern internal retaining rings and using them. Do you see a problem in doing that? Thanks.

There should be plenty of these on the used market. Modern rings may not be the same width but if you can get a retainer in the same width I would see no issues. I suppose you could even use several narrow rings as long as your width does not bind the pin. But personally I"d just get some used one...check ebay or several of the used salvage yards this is a common part....

I would try a call a dealer on these. Hopefully you get a good one that will check for sub numbers and also run it on the dealer locator as then you may find some new ones laying around somewhere.

On the part number for the snap rings it has a D in front of it. Does that mean discontinued? I also checked depotparts and they have none also. I thought finding new ones would be easy as many of those tractors are around. I keep looking on ebay because I wanted to buy new wrist pins also but I cant see paying $132.00 a piece for a wrist pin from the dealer. All i have found so far is unstyled pins on ebay.

Jason,

If your A is a '40 to '52, the p/n for the snap rings you need is D2824R.

Check jdparts.com w/ this p/n and you'll see they're available for about $6.50 each. Near the bottom of the page is a drawing of the ring with all dimensions noted. With this info you could shop around locally if you think $6.50 is too steep.
