5010/20s didn't have enough hp to tear the rear ends out.

I also heard they have transmission problems, but I really dont believe that too much. My 5010 has 9500 hours on it and my 5020 has just turned over to 9000 hours still with the original blocks, and the original transmissions and I do not baby them by any means. I was just looking for suggestions for a little more power because the 5010 was retired and restored.
My 5010 is serial number #1229, which makes it the 229 5010 built, and for the first year they came out with lighter transmission cases.

I don't think there is much hope for getting more hp out of a 5010 because they are naturally aspirated. Its not like a IH 1256 were you can just turn the screw up more.

Is your 5010 engine actually a real original 5010 or has it been upgraded to a 5020? Does your 5010 have the 12 qt oil pan or the bigger 5020 oil pan?

It has the original 12 qt oil pan on it. I agree it has certain limits because of being naturally aspirated....
