Im restoring my John Deere 820 2 cylinder.I'm looking at buying new pistons, and I see several venders that have them in the price from 644$ to 820$ my questions are is there any real differences between these kits and if so who makes the better kit?

Give Jerry Hinrichs a call, he's right down the road from me and always has mid-range prices with the best pistons and rings IMO

Something to consider would be strapping the main bearings, crank, rods, cylinder block, cam, followers, head , pumps on thier mount and the injectors. And send it all to Albert. Everything will come back correct and ready to bolt on. Tractor will run better than it did factory fresh.
Price will be right and you will have peace of mind that everything is exact .

....heck, for another $8000 , Chip Foose can have the exterior looking better than factory fresh also. Send it , it's just money.

Doing the job right the first time is usually cheaper than doing the job over a 2nd time.
Shipping is cheap.
One trip to send and receive the parts saves a lot of valuable time and fuel to run around for parts and shops.
RT is a shop that has specialized in diesel two cylinders for decades. Asking billy bob down a Bubba's machine shop, bait, tackle and marital advice services if he has ever machined a two cylinder before . Sometimes they don't admit they don't have the proper tools for a 6+ inch bore. Main bearing clearances and bearing materials have caused some serious problems.

you make it sound like nobody can work on these engines, before I started restoring tractors nobody around here had even seen a head off a diesel 2 cylinder, I've never had a problem.

I don't mind giving away any of my gaziilion dollars to scammers and "ne'er do wells", but we definately need to know who 'Albert' is.

http://www.oldjd4u.com/ about the cheapest I have found. the pistons are all coming from the same source. The pstons are of the last ones designed by deere except they do not have keystone top ring.luck Paul

I know B-D"s comments sound it a bit rough at times, but hes just trying to make a point, and a good one he does. If you are going to the trouble to put pistons in it, chances are there are other things that it needs. If you are going to do that deep of work, youre right there to put in new bearings and have the fuel system done. Is it expensive, sure, but as he says, its cheaper than going back and doing it a second time. Are these machines complicated? in the grand scheme of things, no not really, but they have little things that can bite you if you dont know the tricks. Albert Ulrich (Rennisance Tractor) can make a two cylinder diesel run like no other ive ever seen. And im talking about a tractor you can take out and work all day, not one to go 300ft at a time and youre lucky if it lasts to get on the trailer.

Originally there were two different bowl designs for the 80-830 all sub to late design and will work with either green dash or black dash tractors.

Not a personal attack, but how would they have even know to look for "Renaissance Tractor" until you made this post? How would they have know that "Albert" owned a business called "Renaissance Tractor" unless you told them?

Did I miss something?

Thanks, many of you have responded to this post but, nobody has answered my question. I know Albert personally he lives about 30 miles up the road. I am going to have him do all the injection work plus a couple other things. I have a great shop that is going to bore the block do all the head work, crank ect. I just had a question about the differences in pistons.

To be honest I was positive I had included Renaissance Tractor in with Albert. Even spell checked Renaissance tractor but must have lost it in the cut and paste. Could not expect you to know Albert on first name alone. Sorry.
