I just had my 520 JD repainted, and the paint shop was going to deliver it this morning, Shop called and said tractor starts, but can not get hand clutch to stop flywheel, to put tractor in gear, It never has done this before, Any ideas?

If you find that the plates and disks are not actually rusted together then I'm going to guess that the pulley brake needs adjusting. If the brake is out of adjustment the lever comes back so far that it passes over center and the clutch begins to engage again.

I tried mine and mine does the Same thing..I cannot STOP the flywheel by pulling back on the Clutch (either).
What could be wrong..????

Ron..

Could they have painted the tractor and had the Clutch Cover removed..??
They may have sprayed Paint into the Clutch..???

Just another guess, but there's an adjustment in the back side of the clutch to keep it from going too far back when the clutch is pulled. If it goes back too far you can't get it to stop. It's adjusted by either shims or adjusting bolts depending on model and serial #. If the guys at the paint shop have the throttle running too fast, as many non-two banger oriented
people do, the clutch might not stop from centrifugal force keeping it engaged. That can be somewhat cured by proper adjustment of those shims or adjusting bolts on the back side. Those are the two odd ball things that come to mind. Jim

You'd better get down there and drive it for them before they screw something up. They're probably not "snapping" the clutch lever back.

logic would tell me to go to the shop upon their call and see what the problem may be as this could be a potentially dangerous situation. I wouldn"t let some unknows run the tractor.
