John Deere A switching rods and crank

I am currently restoring a 1941 John Deere A. The end of the crankshaft is all chewed up where the clutch goes and the connecting rods are the babbitted type and those have chunks missing out of them. I have the opportunity to get a running 1952 John Deere A as a parts tractor. So does anyone know if I can switch out the crank and rods from the 1952 into the 1941? Thanks

The rods will be interchangable, but there's about 0.020" difference in the diameter of the splined end of the crank on the flywheel end. The early crank/flywheel is slightly bigger, so the early flywheel will go on the late crank but will be a sloppy fit. It'll clamp down, but you run the risk of cracking the flywheel. I put an early crank in a late A and had to turn down the splines so the late flywheel would go on ( that's how I know this). Mike
