hello all. going to look at a 1967 4020 powershift, owner says park does not work. first thoughts? im hoping a cable issue, at worst the park pawl. can someone tell me if this can be done without a major teardown? will i have to remove the platform to get to the pawl? any advice as what to look for or a diagram would be great(TX Jim). thank you all in advance.

Here you go. As expensive as repairs are I would advise to check hyd pressures in all gears.

Sold a 4620 P.S.last year and tried cable and that was O.K. but there was a spring that was problem.Easy fix but took some time as deck had to be lifted.PowerShift transmissions are [almost] bullett proof but if you have problems they can be spendy and some parts I was told are hard to find. They do hesitate some but yours sounds to be very noticeable which would bother me.I know of people that took their P.S. to a JD service center and had bill over $10K

Yes very noticeable.owner told me the. tractor almost comes to a stop before engaging 8th gear. Would it be possible that a fluid and filter change and a pressure adjustment would cure that problem? Or is that just wishfull thinking?

Access to the pawl requires removing platform and trans cover. To replace the pawl you need to remove the rockshaft, pto shaft, and load control arm in order to remove the park pawl shaft. I just finished one that the return spring was broken and the retaining rings on the pawl shaft were gone. New shaft is different than original and is installed from rear. I believe the book says to double split and remove from front but that will not work with the new shaft. 7 to 8 shift should not hesitate. 6 to 7 will have a noticable hesitation. I would pressure test trans before buying it.

I think I can get it for around 3500. But if it
turns out the powershift is shot I won't be able
to put 10K into it. Thank you for all you're
replys. I will let you know what I find out.
