John Deere 70

Les Garrelts

My JD 70 needs a new grille. Who can answer this question? Are a JD 720 grille and a JD 70 gas tractor grille interchangeable? I've had answers both yes and no, so I'm still not sure I have gotten the correct answer. Thank you.

According to the parts book the grill, screens and misc hardware all share the same part numbers, whether 70 gas, 720 gas, 70 diesel or 720 diesel.

The only thing I think you have to watch for is if you have an early 70 hood that might not have the hole to fill the power steering ? You can make one if needed.

Les...the nose cones are interchangable, but the early 70's came w/o power so they're missing the inspection hole and plug found on p/s units. Also the air baffles on the underside of the nose cone are different and need to be modified to work. The other difference is in the center grill plate. The two holes where the cultivator plate would be mounted are smaller on a 70 nose cone than those on a 720 nose cone. The raised ridges around the holes on the 720 p/s pedestal will not let a 70 center plate fit correctly.
