Looking at smoke against a blue or grey sky? Or against an outline of trees? What about smoke at fast idle? Hours on engine and condition? Ever service the injectors? Any smoke at full load? It's grey smoke against the grass grass. I only notice it when its in park and there's no air movement. I don't really know about slow/fast idle. It's got 5000 hours. I've only had it 6 months and I don't know about the injectors. Again, because I've put so few hours on it, I don't know about oil consumption. [Reply]  [No Email]

Fast idle is approx 2400rpm and no load. Consult the operators manual for the actual numbers. Obtain a coolant test kit from the dealer that tests the corrosion inhibitor which few operators seem to even know about. If the coolant is old or originonal. The wet sleeves maybe cavitated through and why the previous owner sold the tractor. Run an oil analysis kit on the crankcase oil . Don't need to add to problems with antifreeze tearing the bearings out. [Reply]  [No Email]

Remove rad cap while engine is cold,crank engine and look for tiny bubbles in coolant. [Reply]  [No Email]

leon 01-22-2013 03:15:44 173.30.193.163 Report to Moderator	Re: smoke normal on JD2640 in reply to svenandersen, 01-21-2013 19:10:16   That's called blow-by - combustion gasses blowing by the piston rings into the crankcase, then vented out of the engine block by a vent tube that extends downward toward the bottom of the engine. Some blow-by is normal. It's much more visible in the winter than summer. [Reply]  [No Email]
