JD 2155 stuck in forward after brake issue

Replaced my left brake line, bled the lines, topped off the hyd fluid and now the tractor is stuck in fwd. It has a power shifter on the left side of the dash that wont budge from fwd.

It may be nothing but I can only imagine that when I was looking to refill the brake housing, I removed the only bolt/cap that looked like it might be a filler cap from on top of the brake pedal assembly. It was just inboard of the two brake cylinders and had a 1" head and a spring & ball underneath it. I merely replaced it but couldn't see if the ball/spring returned into their specific seat. It seemed to have a bit of tension on it until it was seated.

Other than that the line went in fine and the assy went ok too. I'm at a loss. Any clues would be helpful. Thanks, Mike

Looked closely and there is nothing binding the linkage from the handle down to where it enters the gear case. With the engine running I tried every combination of fwd/rev/gear ranges/clutch engaged/disengaged. Shut it down and tried again. It shifts in/out of hi/low and runs through the gears fine but it's still locked in fwd.

Would it have anything to do with the cap I removed or can I rule that out?

Thanks, Mike

The spring and ball is the detent for the reverser valve so yes that is likely your problem. The ball should go in first, then the spring. I don't recall if the arm can over travel with the detent out.

Thanks I'll ck it tomorrow. It didn't seem to lay right in the center when I put back on and I was very aware that it spun off with no pressure but wouldn't go back on by hand, so something moved or didn't go back together just right.

Thanks again for your help. Mike

If it can "over travel" that might explain why it didn't seem to seat as far down on the re-install. I couldn't see down in the hole with the foot rest in the way but could move the ball around with my finger and didn't feel an indentation for it to sit down in. I'll try and jam my cell phone camera in there this morning to figure it out.

How would I return the ball seat back to it's proper spot to re-install the ball/spring without possibly causing an issue?

Thanks again, Mike

Thanks, Mike

Removed the cap and the ball/spring were jammed tight inside the cap. The fork shaped ball seat must've rotated fwd before I re-installed the cap causing the spring to fold up and then the ball wedged up inside. Got the ball out and the cap will clean up but the spring is chowed. Hoping the assy inside the housing isn't damaged.

Any idea about a part number on the spring or specifically where I'd find an expanded view and what the part is called? Does this site have a preferred parts supplier? Thanks for the help. Mike

It'd be far easier and I probably should but I'd have to cut them off with a torch and then find replacements. I'd hoped that I wouldn't need to get that far into it but may have to if a new detent spring isn't the answer (see post and pics in response below)

Thanks for your input. Mike

You can order the part from JD dealer R33277 SPRING ADD 2.38
You can view parts schematic at JDparts.com I would download a parts photo of it for you if I could get my "new to me Windows 7 pro" to cooperate
