JD60 P Steering leak

Had removed front wheels and cleaned up pedestal extension for painting. Noticed when I moved it from side to side, fluid would seep down the pedestal housing from above.
Any ideas of what the most likely cause is?
Thank you

We have a really good hydraulic shop nearby. My question to add is, where to obtain a good quality rebuild kit for the JD power steering unit? (Mine is on a 70.) Thanks.

Probably local JD dealer. They have the orings and gaskets I need.
One more question I have before I start tearing apart, Is it possible to do this, just taking the top pedestal off, without dismantling/ dropping the rollomatic?

All of those I have torn apart the main shaft o-rings were D shaped worn flat where the shaft turns in them.

JD sells a seal kit for those units the part number is in the 30 series parts books. I think you will need to order the seal for the actuating sleeve (part where steering shaft goes into)separatly as the 30 series uses an o-ring there too.

That is a big, big help, so much so that I have made my decision, as soon as it warms up I am going to do this on my 70...you mentioned using a lot of hot water to install the vane seals...was that to get them soft enough to install? Thanks, Hugh
