3020 wide front repair

Our front axle center casting AR50865, the part of the axle that the pivot bushings and pins fit into, is worn to the point that the bushings are gone and the casting is chewed up. Do any of you have a good method to fix this? Thanks for any help!

I got a carbon round rod kit that I have never used. The place I got it from is now out of business. You center the rod and weld around it from both sides. I thought it would be good for drawbars, etc.

Only fix I would have for it is welded up with correct rod for the cast iron type it is ; and have machinest machine to correct OD. of new bushing , & by new pins; could get spendy..Did a late style,(one bolt per side to clamp the ajustable knee)about 12 maybe 15 yrs. back; if I remember cost $300+ parts.. which Marked casting No. do you have ;If early R27820, light duty, I would not put money in it, I've got 2 cracked ones in my iron pile now. But if later thicker castings R27820 (same #) or R42851;R47735 or 36 & for sure if R51305 (last casting 1971-72 One bolt clamp)there worth fixing.....hope this helps...

Probably cheaper in long run to replace.I have seen complete worn out ones bring $600 and good after market JD A&I ones made in Canada which are heavier around $1000+.I have seen a few with 8 bolt 30/40 series or case fronts although not original they sure look good.Usually unless you can do it yourself repairing something worn out can mount up fast.

We took ours out to have it built up at a local machine shop. It came back JB welded we weren't happy about it since we could have done that ourselves. But it's been 15 years and still as tight as it was when we installed it. 148 loader with an extention for hauling more dirt and moving round bales. chris

How hard is it to put a 40 series front end under a late 3020? Do they match very closely or do they need major modifying? It would look great, be really strong, and I know of a cheap front end around here...

Lon,I beleive the adapter to put the 40 series front was made by a company called Beam Mfg.Any salvage yard will probably know.I might make a call and try and find out as I have only bought tractors with them on.

Bushings gone, casting chewed up? BTDT.....A good machine shop can renew. Likely re-center the bushing, install a bigger one. Did one A COUPLE YEARS ago, have another one due now. Yeah, should have been better with the grease gun!

A couple times a year we have a tractor come in our shop with that problem. We call up a machinist who has a contraption that he attaches to the casting and bores the hole out to recenter it. He then makes a new bushing custom to what the hole ends up at. Not sure of his name or the cost - central MN.
