1928 D pulley brake repair -pics-

pulley brake was loose on pivot and I need the friction pad for the brake
I found a shim that was the right size to take 90 percent of the play out of the brake and still allow the brake to operate
I took a brand new ABC187 clamp on pulley brake lining pad from Steiner's -removed the rivets from the steel backing plate
I cut 3/4 inch of the one end so that it fit
I drilled new holes in pad to match the brake frame hole pattern.
I used a flat wood bit to countersink the holes
I used 4 1/8" pop rivets to secure the pad to the brake frame
I ground the tops off the rivets down to the pins to clean thing up - I tried the operation -it seems to work good now -the real test will be when the tractor is running.

I did the same thing on a 39 A and it worked well.
November 2 last year, I was using my 42 H to pull my syrup mill with a flat belt. To keep it gripping, I pour old syrup on the belt. Next morning, I cranked the H and engaged the clutch and the engine stalled. Got to looking and the syrup had bound the brake to the clutch pulley. Took a long pry bar to pop it loose.
