I have a leak near my hydraulic pump on an early 4020 SN 141xxx. Is there a way to drain the oil out at that point or is is all going to gush out as I dismantle it? The part manual does not help much. I am seeing the leak at the elbow on the pump. I tried to tighten the nut. If I am lucky, it might be just an "O" ring to replace.
 
There is an o-ring under the jam nut on the side of the pump. There could be a crack in the flare on the tube where it hooks on the elbo or the elbo itself may be cracked. Replacing the o-ring is where I would start.
 
The only oil you will get is what is in the pipe. As ET said it could be the o-ring or the flare on the pipe is cracked. Slow leak is probably the o-ring.
 
I was not as clear in the description as I should have been. The leak appears to be on the elbow from the oil cooler. Can I drain that oil or is there a lot that will come out of the oil cooler? It is also a power shift tractor. There seems to be a different set up for the synchro-range.
 
You will only loose whats in the oil cooler. If you let it set overnight there will be less. Is there a short hose from the elbo up to the oil cooler. I remember some power shifts that had 2 elbos on one side. One went to the oil cooler.
 
Try to wash it off good before you start to remove it, then run it to see if you can see for sure where the leak is,some times a fitting is suspect, but the leak may actually be above it and slobbering down to it,,on those it is very often the oil cooler leaking...you gonna have oil on the floor no matter what,,Darn it,,that"s why I buy floor dry by the skids...the guy at the parts store wanted to know if I was Feeding it....
