Hi guys! I just bought a open station 4255. Just wondering if anyone has a idea how many were built. First one I've seen in my area. I'm sure they are more common in the south. Thanks in advance!!

Super nice open station 4050. The 4255 looks like a really nice tractor also.We all have different thoughts .Terms like original and restored are two of the most overused words.Open station is usually no cab.It is amazing how nice some of the older original paint tractors will clean up.I personally like them as much or more than a near perfect repaint as you dont have to worry about the first little scratch.

We are in central NC. Most of the 4040"4050"4055"s were open station around here.

I'm sorry guys...I shouldn't have called it an "open station" because it does have the 4 post. Sorry if I mislead anyone...around here there aren't many without cabs and everyone around here has been calling it a open station...even my dealer referred to it as such. Here is a pic....

Just an observation, but, isn't the steering wheel 'high' ? I'm sure it is correct, just wondering.

Any marks in the paint indicating somebody didn't want one of those durn fool safety things on his tractor and took it off?

I can remember when the local dealership transferred ownership in the early 1980's they had a 4050 open station (no ROPS) on the lot. Back in those days when dealers still ordered for in-store inventory I think most ordered tractors with ROPS (if no SGB) for liability reasons and farmers accepted that. Like I said before any farmer who wanted an open station in the 1980's was old-fashioned (stubborn) or was trying to save a dollar.

Or needed to get into low buildings. That 4050 looks pretty sweet BTW. I would like to have something like that instead of the 2950 we have. wishful thinking...

I think you are right about more being in the South. There were a fair number of 4050, 4250, 4055, and 4255 tractors sold with ROPS or open station here in the Northeast. I just saw a 4250 with ROPS sell at a dealership auction Saturday. Far fewer 4450 and 4455 tractors without SGB. Some smaller farmers were slow to accept SGB plus the 1980's were a difficult time and farmers tried parring cost down where possible.

I came across this one by chance and it is very, very clean. It happens to fit my operation pretty good and was just unusual enough that I decided to buy it. I have seen a few 4040's and 4050 but never anything newer than that here in NW Indiana. I understand a lot of folks in the south still bought a lot of open station/ROPS tractors. This one happens to be a local 1 owner machine.

Is it possible for you to post pics of the 4255? I thought they were all 4 post tractors or SGB. You have a rare tractor if it never had a 4 post, nice find.

Operator station with fenders only isn't listed in 4255 parts catalog. It is listed in 4455 catalog for Mexico only.

Here is a picture for you Tim of my '84 4050 Powershift. Has the 466 motor. I talked to the original owner that bought it new who farmed 80 acres. Other than the Mexican 4455's I thought this was the last series of the true open station tractors.

Very nice, it sure looks to be an original fender deck, when the 4 post or the cabs are cut off the stubs for the roll gard are still exposed..

I have seen several of them that have been cut off before. I asked the guy who bought mine new if they had a hard time getting it for him and he said no, but he did order the tractor, it was not dealer inventory. He lived in Wisconsin so I am sure not many non cab models found their way there!
