Our Agriculture Class in rebuilding a 1950 John Deere A. When re-installing the crankshaft and the camshaft we noticed no marks on the crankshaft gear when viewed from the left side of the tractor. We did notice a mark on the camshaft. How does on set the correct valve timing without the proper marks on the crank gear and camshaft?
We also noticed a mark on the backside of the crankshaft gear when viewed from the right side of the tractor. We also observed a mark on the back side of the camshaft gear when viewed from the right side of the tractor. Surely these are not the marks that should be aligned?
The I&T manual does not give a clear description on how to do this!
Thanks for any help.
