Wondering when JD made the switch to side console on the 4020s. Looking for serial number, year... (and anything else noteworthy about the work station re-arrangement.)Were 4020s with LP and side console rare?
Thanks. Ralph in OK.

1969 was the side console year of introduction. It would depend on the region as to the LP's ordered when the side console was standard. Here in MN most of the 69 and later tractors were diesel.

In Oklahoma they may have been LP. Who knows? I was born the day my Dad bought his 4020. I'm probably not selling that one. Hint on my age, its a 69...

Serial number of side console 4020 started at SN 201,000. I don't know the correct number of 4020 SC LPG's but there weren't a whole lot of them. 4020 LPG Powershift trans are very sought after tractors.

Ralph ,according to my info It says 836 row crop and 3 Hi crop side counsel making 839 total. The power shift question has no answer but if you have one with HFWA the # could probably fit on one hand.

Counsel is something a lawyer does for you, as in "counselor". A '69 4020 has a CONSOLE. Sorry, but this is a pet peeve of mine, kinda like "finders" and "syngro".

(quoted from post at 09:35:36 12/31/12) Side console LP power shift 4020"s are rare enough that anybody converting it to diesel is a clueless twit .

I reread it 4 times- NO WHERE in the previous 6 post does it say ANYTHING about ANYBODY converting it to diesel.

To the OP- 69' was the introduction of the side console and yes a LP side console would be a low production number tractor.

Sorry for spelling error.Spell check would not help as it is a word.Console tractors are one of my favorites. We all have things that bother us I happen to not like painted axles or tachs that are wrong for year even though the advertiser states original hours.I actually was in a spelling bee at museum and came in second to many educated people guess I must have been lucky.

Larry- I'm with you- painted axles- OH man!! I dont even like painting them black all that much- being mine or customers rigs- but they need something for protection. I'm going to try gun blueing on one here soon and see how that pans out.
Even worse for me- green front hubs- that will send me straight through the roof.
People take all the time and money to do a tractor- and then it comes out with yellow rear axles and green front hubs- because it would of taken 20 minutes more to tape them off!!

I had a 1970 diesel. I didn"t like losing the brakes when the clutch was held down too long. But the rear end lasted a lot longer than the 1950 Oliver I had before that but it sure didn"t have the power or sound that little 4-53 had. The other Deeres I didn"t like was my 70D and especially the 9400!
