have a 1929 John deere model D Iam working on clutch and have found the large bronze bushing is loose in the clutch housing. Does this need to be replaced? New parts not available from JD so the part will have to be made by machine shop. can you tell me how tight the bronze bushing should fit in the housing and what sahould the clearance be between the crankshaft and the bushing. thanks

Check out oldjdforyou dot com. They usually have some odd ball D stock like you need. If you must have a bushing made. I usually make a press fit bushings about 3-4 thousandths over the hub size. Chamfer both ends. Check for fit. Polish with fine emery cloth. Press in hub. Crank diameter should be a slug but not tight. Machine shop should bore to atleast 1-2 thousandths over crank diameter.
