3020 vs. 4000

Hi, I've recently ran into a man selling a 3020 Powershift AND a 4000 Powershift. Both are restored and good condition. He is asking a little more for the 4000 which is no surprise. I plan on just raking straw in the summer and corn fodder in the fall with it. Now my question is. Should I go for the 3020 which is just fine for the job and a little cheaper or the 4000 which will have more power yet cost more money. Thoughts on this? I've seen and ran them in person. 8 hours on the tach of both since professional restoration. I only have money for 1 of them, so sorry can't do both.

Well, a 4000 powershift is rare. They only made approx 428 diesel powershifts. If it can be bought right, go for it. They are a good tractor, and will pull as good or even better than a 4020. 1000 lbs lighter, but same horsepower. No comparison between it and a 3020. On the other hand, the 3020 will be better on fuel, especially on light work.

The 4000 would be my choice. There were 87993 total 3020s and 8095 4000s made. The 404s run smoother and have another 25H.P.I am assuming the 3020 is a side counsel and their value is almost identical. In fact 2520s,3020s 4000s,4020s,&4320s all bring about the same.

I agree with everthing said already, and might add,if you ever have a block damaging engine failure,it is much easier to find a good 404 or 466 to repower a 4000 than a 270 for the 3020.
