I found an old 60 right under my nose just down the road from me. Been sitting in an old elevator for over twenty years. I am wanting to make the guy an offer, just not sure on what to offer. Tires are shot, engine is stuck, gas tank smells horrid. The good points are: Its an early 55 model, factory power steering, live pto and hyd, tin is near perfect, its all complete and has original paint. No three point. What do you guys think? I feel its worth around $650 - $900. I dont want to offend the guy, thats just what i would be comfortable with.

BBG...I usually let the seller tell me what he wants for it, but I have an idea of what I'm willing to pay. Sometimes the seller is reluctant and says "make me an offer". I resist making an offer as that's when the seller becomes offended if your value estimate is greatly different than his. I have a friend that likes to part out JD 60's and he'd probably pay up to $1200 for it, but if you plan to keep it and get it running $800 is about right. It probably ways close to 3 tons so you can estimate scrap value. You can buy a pretty decent running JD 60 here (Mn/Wi) for $1500 -$1800.

Here in the Northeast corner of Ohio you can't find a decent "60" for less than $2500 to $3000. There are not many advertised. I looked at one ,metal all rusty ,tires so-so asking 2600. Maybe Tim S. can find me one in southern Ohio. Merry Christmas --- White Christmas up here this year.

Merry x mas to you as well. She is white here too in North central Iowa. Makes the kids happy! In my neck of the woods, a 60 has to be darn nice to bring close to $3000. Maybe its just the market around here. Not what it used to be. I really dont even need another tractor. . .but i just cant help it! Its too much fun and the wife and kids enjoy this hobby as well. I am thinking on paying the owner a visit after the holidays are over. We will see!

I agree with your price range from what I have seen. BBG I like Blksmok"s advise, let him tell you what he wants for it while you tell him why you are interested in it . Let him know you are willing to wait if he is not ready to sell.

I do know the guy, he happened to show it to me while I was out putting a manifold on his late A for him. He did say its time the tractor gets out of the elevator, as I think it wont be much longer and it will fall down. Its leaning to one side already.

Advertise a JD and it seems the usual call is they want you to Give it to them...

Listed my 630LP a couple times, worth twice my asking and it is still here.. and IT is NO Dog...and all I asked was $3,000.oo (Firm)..

You are about right on price.I recently bought a running 630(not running great bad gas) with three point(no toplink) with a hyd bucket loader on a sale in cental Iowa for $3100.At the price of parts you can spent alot of money real fast fixing them.Does the owner know any history? It would help to know why it was parked and was it running?

Yeah his brother told me he is the second owner, and that it had blowby and used oil when he parked it. He bought a 3010 after that and just decided to leave the 60 sit. The brother also told me that he dont think it had ever been overhauled, even before they got it. Interesting. . .

Big thing in it's favor is the original paint. They aren't making any more original painted tractors. Look around, how many original paint tractors do you see? Other than that it may be a parts machine.
