John Deere 3020 Power Steering Issue

Hi Guys, we have a John Deere 3020 here and right after it
starts the wheels turn left and are locked in that position.
The two power steering lines were removed to remove the
hydraulic pump. Once it builds pressure the wheel will not
move at all until it is off and loses its pressure. Any help is
greatly appreciated.

Your steer valve needs re-sealed and re-calibrated,,do you have any one near you that can do that?, It takes a little know how and a set-up tool...

Does the valve need to be removed from the tractor to reseal/recalibrate it?

Yes, and they are a bit ornery to get out if it's your first time, they need disassembled and re-calibrated, I have a way of doing that and bench testing them here in my shop.

hey Tim S these boys asked me about this 3020 acting up on them and I had them post their problem. what they havent mentioned is that the tractor worked fine before the hydraulic pump was repaired and the lines reassembled. first thing that came to my mind was that there is air in the lines. Is this possible. and if so can it be bled out. I hate to see them take out the steering valve if that isnt the problem, its a lot of work. again the steering on the tractor worked great but they had the main hydraulic pump repaired and put everything back together, they get oil pressure out one steering line but not much if any out the other. Is there a way of any diagnosis Thanks for any help

Well that scenario could change the problem,,as for air in the system that"s not likely the problem,,some times the valve can kinda hang up,,jittering the steering wheel "could" shake it loose,,maybe,,maybe taking the weight off the front end and manualing it back the other way then starting the engine,,be careful of the wheel "kicking" when they start it up,,,the valve is sticking or bumped out of adjustment,,some times a bit of wear on the actuating lever will take the valve to the edge of being out of tolerance, then a shock of some kind finishes it off..

Hey Timmermans,
It could have debris from the other work stuck in the valves of the steering assembly. I just did a 2520 that was leaking. They are not fun to get out and if your not sure what your doing I would advise you find someone who does. The hardest part is readjusting them without the proper special tools. Good Luck!

Yes that is also a possibility,a bit if dirt getting into the pressure line would go un-filtered into the steer valve.A little bit of fiddling with it "could" help it to pass on through, with a little Luck,,they are not nice to get out that's for sure...
