jd 620 power takeoff

I"m working on a 620 and the transmission oil is leaking into the pto and filling it up. Does anyone know if you can replace the seal by just removing the clutch pack and leaving the hydraulic. Thanks

The whole rockshaft housing will have to come off to get to that seal. You can change the seals once it's off without having to remove the pto clutch parts.
Once in there I also like to check and adjust the rear axle bearings play. If you have any rear axle oil seal leakage do them at this time too.

Here is a picture of the 60. I would suggest some sort of hoist for the rockshaft assembly. It is rather heavy and does not have a symetrical center of mass so it wants to tilt on you when you get it free. The old seal was a one piece. You will have to order 2 new seals and place them on the shaft back to back. You want the fluid in the transmission to stay on that side and the fluid in the PTO to stay its side. Does not hurt to pack a little grease between the 2 seals upon assembly if I remember. Pics worth a thousand words so here they are. I am assuming the 60 like mine will be very similar to your newer model. Also a good time to redo the PTO clutches if they need it and bushings etc.

Also a great time to flush out the transmission fluid and PTO fluid, and rockshaft fluid as it will run all over your shop floor like in my picture!! LOL!

Thanks for the picture The tractor I'm working on is original and I will address the other issues as well. I don't know why but you can never catch all the oil. Thanks for the help
