changing split rims

It"s very easy once the ring is removed, as that"s the purpose, however I wouldn"t have a set on a tractor. The rim has to be in good shape and the ring has to be positioned at the time of inflation. Also it could be risky to place with the ring outside as it would be a risk to the public and is risky with ring inside as it would be a risk to you. Guess it was the best they could do at the time without good tire changing equipment and for field operations but they can be risky. I had a set on a b and once in place I welded the ring, still didn"t trust it. Be careful.

The real danger is when you air them up if the ring is not seated completely it can "blow" off with unbelievable deadly force..We have done away with all of them around here, people use to call them "Widow Makers"

I did the set on our old 1965 ? Ford 1 ton many years ago. Split rims are easy to change. That's why they made them. Everything needs to be clean and in good shape so the lock rings go into and stay into the grooves.
We bought a clip on air chuck to air them up. Wrapped a log chain loosly around them ours had big openings in the rim centers and then also set the loader bucket down on top of them.Turned the air on back at the compressor and stayed back. All went fine with no misshaps.

Changed a bunch of 'em way back when; the locking rings that weren't 'solid' i.e., had a split in them didn't bother me, though I always put 'em in a cage or chained 'em down and used a lock-on chuck. The earlier ones where the locking ring was one piece/made a complete circle scared me.

We have a set on our 68' C50 Chevy Grain truck that my great grandpa bought new. The shop that we have change our tires on it says it is the best set they work on since it doesn't see salted roads much and sits in the shed most of the time. I would like to find a set of rims to replace them with that will take 8.25-20 tires but so far have had no luck.
