I am trying to help out my cousin who has our grandfather's 1955 Model 60 tractor. I helped him extract a mounted 3-row buster/bedder from the old farm this weekend. I don't have any information about this plow, except it was used on his tractor. I am looking for a plow model number and/or photos of a completed setup, or any other information about it (manuals, etc.). Thanks.

Hey John, don't know much about them as far as #'s go. I do own 4 sets of them. I have pictures of a set mounted on a "B" that I bought a while back for a parts tractor. Be glad to send pic's if you send a e-mail address. Pete

The 50 series would be time appropriate...

From what I understand, talking to my uncle, who may have farmed with this tractor, there is one plow on each front corner, and one in the center back.

Does this ring a bell?

My Farmalls have setups like this, I am guessing JD does also.

I think this is the bedder you're referring to. My Dad bedded and rebedded with one just like this one. You can download parts catalog #417 - Nos. 300, AB300, G300, AB300A, G300A, AB300B and G300B Series Integral Bedders or Middlebreakers. This bedder has one bottom on each side in front of rear tires and one bottom in the middle in the rear. I'm not computer smart enough to post PDF photos.

(quoted from post at 13:52:58 12/05/12) OK, I found the parts catalog PDF on jdpc.deere.com. Any chance of finding an owner's manual?

My catalog of manuals, DB1112, does not show an operators manual for the 300 bedder. Like some implements, rotary hoe for example, were presumed that the tool was simple enough for the operator get installed and working through intuitive means alone.

This list of publications is all Deere, com shows.
Publication Type Part Number Title Language

Parts Catalog CD-ROM PC417CD 300 Bedder English

Yipes ! What a gizmo. I'm sure they were good tools and all, be interesting to find out who thunk it up (and many others).

Plows and such like this one look GREAT on parade or show tractors. Personally, I find a bare tractor kinda boring. I like to see mounted plows, planters and cultivators, or anything different (corn or cotton pickers)

I remember from my youth that the "gizmo" was a little difficult for one man to attach to the axle studs on both sides. Back in the 40's-60's it was thought by farmers that a row crop couldn't be successfully made with bedding and re-bedding. Now no-til and just plain flat planting has proved the old farmers were incorrect.
