I have a question about the hydraulic oil. The manual for my 1945 model A says it takes 8 gallons.I recently drained out the old hydraulic oil and attempted to put in 8 gallons.I know it won't hold 8 gallons as it started running out the fill hole when I removed the funnel I used to refill.I figure I had between 6 and 7 gallons in when I removed the funnel.I relly don't believe it takes much more than 5 gallons of hydraulic oil.I know I didn't drain out 8 gallons, but I also know it was low before I started the process. ray |

First off, that's not the capacity for the "hydraulic" reservoir. That's more like 5 or 6 quarts in the Powr-Lift or a later Powr-Trol.
You're talking about the rear end oil, and the FSB I just looked at says 8 gallons, and should be gear oil. Is there a second drain plug for the rear end that drops the oil trapped over the hump in the forward transmission area? I can't remember for sure. |
