First timer here trying to upload a picture so if it comes out upside down, backwards or missing don't hit me to hard. This piston came out of a 27 D 45,000 serial number range. Its a standard bore D944R It was on the clutch side and was the one that was stuck. Came out fairly easy after 1 week of ATF on top of it. The recessed area is on the bottom of the piston. The head is recessed the same way. I guess I just wanted some opinions on what caused it and the head to be damaged this way.Can it be filled in and grinded smooth? Its pretty far into but not all the way into the top ring groove at its thinnest point. |

| Make sure to get the head magnafluxed to see if it is cracked around the bottom radius where the worst rot is. The piston will likely work unless you are really working it hard, there are lots of rings to seal it up. |

| It set for a LONG time with water in that cylinder. I think you'll be looking for a piston. Machine shop may be able to plane the head enough so that what pitting is left, won't bother. Good luck! |

| A really GOOD welder can repair the head by Welding with rod that's for cast iron it was not nickel. X Calibur I think. Local welder here rebuilt his G . Similar rot as yours. Bead blasted the area . Pre heated, Welded the head. Peaned it. Covered in sand to cool off. Milled head surface. That was 10 years ago. Still running today. |
