70 manifold valve

(quoted from post at 20:52:03 11/29/12) Has anyone ever got a stuck manifold valve out?

Yes, I have. Several times. I like to heat them in a good soaking wood fire if I have the manifold off, and then I let them cool down in the ashes, since the ashes have a lot of phosphate in them, and that acts as sort of a soap. It gets in everywhere. Once it is cooled to ambient, I lay the manifold on a good flat surface, and give the valve a whack on the flats with a pretty stout hammer. The valve is tapered so you have to knock them down to get them loose. The whacking with the hammer is even published in the Field Service Bullettins. The FSB says to whack it when it's on the head.

Thanks, I have tried soaking, hot tank, I guess it would be unwise to use a rosebud. To bad I just burned my brush pile, got pretty hot melted glass Also where do you find that acid for cleaning gas tanks? Russ

Go look at the link below for some pictures, but I find it at Home Depot and Lowe's all the time.

If you could remove the manifold, I would try a rosebud, but it's risky on the tractor.

(quoted from post at 21:24:45 11/29/12) Everything from the pedestal fwd is off. its just a skeleton. Give it a try. Russ

I'd lay it on a bed of dry kitty litter so it doesn't heat soak a cool spot on a corner and crack. It will cool nice and slow on the kitty litter, too.
