oil in antifreeze

I purchased a 1952 jd 60 last June and when I got it home I changed the oil and filter. I have only got about 20 hrs. on this oil change .I,m in the process of getting it ready to paint, decided to drain the radiater and found about 3 quarts of oil in antifreeze. My question is why the oil is in the antifreeze?Hope someone else has had this problem and can give me any info to correct it.Thanks!!!

Oil in the coolant, but no coolant in the oil? The ONLY time I saw that occur was on a VW diesel, and the block had cracked hairline from the oil to the head port through to the water jacket. Since those engines ran very high oil pressure (over 100 psi), it pushed oil into the coolant, but the crack was so small and tight, the coolant at 15 psi couldn't get back to the oil.

Now, on your '60', which were known for head gaskets issues, maybe the oil supply port nut is a bit loose, and the oil is making its way to the water jacket. You might try re-torquing the head nuts and see what happens.

Now, another long shot...Did you change or examine the coolant before, or is this the first time you looked? Maybe it had oil in it before from some other problem, now resolved? Also, did the oil that came out with the coolant look the same as the 20 hour old oil you drained from the crankcase?
