I'm looking at a late JD A block that the seller says measures 5.510. I see that John Deere offered pistons that were .045 over and .090 over in my parts book. My old block that has a crack measures 5.501 which is reasonable. Did any aftermarket companys offer 10 over pistons for the "A", or are the cylinders just plain worn that bad? Thanks, Dandy Dave! |

| OK, Thanks Fellows. With other engines I have worked on, .002 to .003 is allowable wear. I thought .010 was a worn a bit too much, almost to the point that I though it may have been bored. He does not seem to know much about what he is selling anyway, he takes forever to anwer questions, and does not even respond at all to some of them. He wants me to back out of the deal anyway because he screwed up on the shipping amount. I don't want a block that I have to have bored and sleeved as I can have that done to the one I have. He says it is Standard Bore. 5.510 is no longer Standared in my book. Thanks again, Dandy Dave! |

| It's likely just worn that much. Is that measurement all the way through or just at the upper top end of ring travel ? If just at the upper end of travel it should work as is for light use with new rings. Otherwise plan on a bore job and oversized pistons. Check VERY close at the inside upper end for cracks around the inside of the cylinder wall. Have it magnafluxed too. These like to crack there. |
