Connecting rods

Now that I have the motor apart in my 1944 B, the babbited style bearings have some wear and need machining. Instead of having this done, are there connecting rods from a late B, or even a 50 that had the insert style bearings that would fit my tractor? Thanks guys.

Beginning with serial number 96000, (1941 Model) rods with replacable inserts are used. Parts manual shows several sizes (undersized). You should have no problem finding these.

The machine shop i use can and does remove all of the babbit and puts insert bearings in place of the babbit. He grinds notches for the tabs and it turns out great. Has done alot around the area with no problems to date. And he has been in business for 35 yrs.

Center Automotive in Akron can rework those rods into insert types also. He did some for me years ago.
Your crank will need to be in GREAT shape or reground for best results with insert bearings.
Babbit rods are more forgiving of wear.

All you do is remove shims to reduce clearance back to spec. Thats howif theyte designed. You cant put inserts in unless you have the crank turned. & babbitt is much more durable- you can tighten them several times.
