Clutch facings bonding?

Sometime "before long" I'm going to have to replace the clutch facings in my 70. As you know, the price of the ones bonded to the two metal pieces is a bit "salty". I've noticed that the facings themselves are the same as the free facings. Is it possible to take the worn out metal ones to a brake shop, have the remains of the facings removed and new ones bonded on? If so, would the cost really be cheaper than "new" ones? I had a bonded disk separate on me on a tractor I needed that day. The only thing I had that I thought might remotely work was weatherstrip glue. I knew it probably wouldn't last long but I needed the tractor until I could make other arrangements. That tractor is still working. I recently had to take the clutch apart for some service work and the disks were still bonded to the steel. I wasn't sure if the glue would stand the heat but it appears to have done well. I wire brushed the steel clean and bright, brushed the facing and cleaned it with brake cleaner. I didn't expect it to work but it seems to have done just that. Hope this helps. Mike

I have done several of them using gorilla glue and they seemed to hold just fine,do as Mike said and clean them up good. I put it the vice then a couple more clamps around it and left overnite worked good. But you should be able to buy them for around $40-45 dollars and that doesnt seem bad considering you do it yourself with no labor charges
