You will get a lot of strange noise with the cover off,so don"t let that lead you astray, the trans pump drives off a plug seated in the back of the crank shaft, rarely is there any trouble on that end. |

| | The only reason I ask is,the shaft pulled out very easy, went in easy. I decided to pull it back out some to spin the pump by hand to feel for any play. Anyways, I could not get the shaft back through the pump,it got hung up,is their a bushing on the other end? Regardless I am going to have to split it to figure out where this noise is coming from..I know its not in the trans,so maybe I should start with a split at the clutch? Thanks for all your help, if you were closer I would pay you to do it. Thanks! Joe |

| There is a bushing at the rear of the hi/low pack, but if you rotate the shaft it will line up. i have a 4440 Quad that I just brought in with a bad noise as it pulls going forward, on the coast it goes away,,I'm thinking the bottom shaft rear bearing, I'm going in from the back on it, pulling the cab, final drives then setting the transmission off .,On the 4440 power shift I have in here it was slipping in all the gears, the pressures were near right so I went in from the front, the dry clutch is bad...I'm gonna pull the C1&2 clutch packs out and inspect them and the trans. pump while I'm in there... |
