70 clutch pulley

(quoted from post at 12:34:41 11/16/12) I need to get the pulley gear off on a gas 70. Any suggestions. Russ

Some folks use a LARGE puller. That's what they show in the 70 D shop manual. I have used my 20 ton shop press, but you need to stay away from pushing or pulling on the outer web, as it will crack. Cut a thick plug for the inside, block the gear on its edges, and press it out. Installation, support the center so it does not crack.

I use a large 3 jaw hydraulic puller. Works GREAT !!! Hook the laws right over the gear teeth trying to catch more than one tooth per jaw and then make or find something round and heavy plate to put into the center to push onto.

See if you can rent one.

Thanks, I may just take it to John Deere. At near 80 years old I fear this was a mistake to fix this basket case. Russ
