John Deere 2020 gas starter

I have a 1967 John Deere 2020 gas tractor. Recently the starter wouldn't spin when we tried to start it so we pulled it off and the solenoid is kicking the drive in but the starter won't spin. I am thinking of rebuilding it. Is this a big task and where could I get a rebuild kit for it? Thanks in advance, Morgan

You can buy the individual parts at most auto stores like NAPA, or order on-line. If the solenoid is pushing the drive in - but the starter doesn't spin - the problem may just be the solenoid contacts. Common wear area and easy fix. Using standard automotive parts. The electro magnet is what both engages the starter and pulls two contacts together to make it spin.
