Jd300 loader tractor

I have a 300 loader that the right wheel locked up. I loosened the 12 or so bolts that hold the final drive and the wheel would turn freely by hand. Tightened the bolts back up and wheel would not spin. Took the final drive off and the hub would spin and the bull gear would spin. So I am thinking the brakes were locked up. I think when you apply pressure to the break there are two metal bands that squeeze the break disc. Well what relieves the pressure? I have taken the break lines apart and removed as much oil as possible. Is there some type of cylinder in the final drive? Thanks for any suggestions.

There are no brake "bands" in there. No "brake cylinder" either. Just a big round piston.

Are you sure it's the brakes locking up? Did you check the big center-bolt in the final drive and make sure it's not backing out? It has a triangle-shaped lock-plate driven over it. That plate sometimes works loose and then that bolt starts backing out.

What did your brake linings look like when you had it apart?

It just had a brake disc. The disc looked fine and not worn much at all. There were 3 pins that pushed against a metal ring that appeared to press against the break disk. I put a c clamp on those pins and pushed those pins in a bit. Put the final drive back on and things seemed to spin freely. Not sure what will happen when I get the tractor back togrther and bleed the brakes. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks for your help.
