Does anyone know how much clearance when adjusting the valves on a jd 1520?? I am replacing my fan belt and thought I should adjust the valve long as the hood is off. I have
a new valve cover gasket but can find my shop manual for the life of me.

thanks

14 intake 18 exhaust....make sure engine is top on number 1, put in pin to lock it...do ex and intake on number 1 and #2 ex....rotate engine lock it, do both on #3 and intake on #2

Thank you for the info ! So just to make sure I understand, I can put #1 piston(back cylinder) to tdc, and then I can adjust both exhaust and intake on tdc. Rotate to tdc on #2 do the same and then #3 and do the same?

Sorry for being so dumb, where/what do I pin to lock the tdc :)

thanks

FYI, when the books spec those combinations like TDC #1, adjust I and E on #1, E on #4, I on #2, etc, it's just to save more engine rotations. If ever in doubt, just turn one cylinder to TDC (I like to use my thumb in the spark plug hole to feel the compression stroke just to be sure), then adjust both valves. Then do the same for each cylinder. Knowing the firing order is handy here, too. At TDC compression, both valves will be closed or you have other problems!
