My F510 John Deere has a cranking issue. Intermittenly it just turns and turns but will not crank. The gas is good. I had it serviced about 1.5 month ago due to the same issue. New fuel filter, oil change, new air filter. Tried lifting the top of the breather of and spraying starter fluid down on the carburator. Just turns and turns. Need ideas.
Thanks in advance.

Hook a timing light to it and see if you have spark. That rules out half the questions.

(quoted from post at 18:45:05 11/10/12) Possibly a valve stuck open from carbon on top of cylinder flaking off

And that he could check with a compression tester, or even a thumb over the plug hole while it spins. A compression tester and timing light never cease to pay dividends for me.
