Richard55 11-10-2012 14:39:10 64.71.212.153 Report to Moderator	I had to replace the muffler on my 4010 LP.The one that was on the tractor was loud enough that you had to wear ear plugs.Bought a new one at tractor supply and installed it. Now it's so loud even with ear plugs you can hardly stand to run it. can i install a muffler off a diesel tractor even if I have to use a adapter,so it's not so loud? Or can i install any muffler as long as it fits to quiet it down? Will a quiet muffler cause to much backpressure on the motor? Thanks for any help. [Reply]   [No Email]

Only had welds at the bottom under the hood. The pipe always looks like new as the heat never gets to the chrome and it is quieter than the straight pipe. On a 4010 diesel. [Reply]  [No Email]

I remember my father had bought these from a local repair shop. I also remember hauling grain with that tractor and the top portion of that muffler was pressed on and around the exhaust outlet, as well as the outer portion of the muffler. After about so long, that top piece had rattled loose and was moving and vibrating around in a circle, and yes, that tractor was loud! I was sent to town to go get a new muffler from the JD dealership. That made quite an improvement in itself. The mufflers we had been buying before, looked like those I have seen that are made by Stanley. I have had a Stanley on a model A, and will not do that again unless I really want to make a loud racket! I have looked down in the Stanley mufflers for the Two Cylinder tractors and there was a hole in the baffle inside the muffler. I don't recall if that was the case on the 4020 muffler, but I do know there was quite a bit of difference in the guage of metal in the muffler made by Stanley and the one from the JD dealership. You will probably get quite a few more years of life out of the one from John Deere, too. At least that is what I remember, and I would think the noise will be a bit more tolerable, too. Hope this helps out a bit, and I would agree with installing the exhaust pipe extension on top of the muffle. [Reply]  [No Email]

I will surely agree that those spark ignition engines are loud. I have a friend with a 3020 gas with a huge chromed straight pipe. He brought it to me to figure out why is was down on power. I had to run it on the dyno several times to get all the kinks worked out. Under 100% load the neighbors a mile away could hear it. [Reply]  [No Email]
