been having a slight problem with the sycro-mess trans. sometimes in park it acts like it is still in gear. sometimes in park it will not start because it seems to sense that it is in gear. when i ran into problem previously, i just dry shifted through the gears and back into park and it turned over. parked it this morning jumped on it this afternoon and it won't start. when i shut it down it was definately in park. any suggestions?

in the shift quadrant when in park there is a lever that push on the safety start switch look like a little flapper the shift quadrant has plastic it may be metal leaver that hits the safety start switch when in park i tried posting pic you can find it at jd parts .com

i agree ... i would start with the neutral park safety switch. It is either out of adjustment or just corroded. As far as adjustment the plastic arm that actuates the switch can be adjusted. Also if the shift quadrant has never been rebuilt it may bee time if you have a lot of "slop".

thank you both for pointing me in the right direction. there is so much slop in the quadrant that shifting has become an adventure every time.
