70 gas thermostat

Just found out that a thermostat from JD is almost $200 now. Napa has them in three different levels. Regular, premium, and heavy duty. Has anyone used the Napa thermostats and what temp? The one I took out was the heavy duty type and was a 160. I don't know if this was original or not.

Checked the parts catalog PC0313 on page 25-5 and it lists part AF 1710 R thermostat with a range of 160o - 178o for the 1955 Model 70 gas tractor.

Hope this helps.

Used the Napa stat on Dad's 70 gasser too.
Temps below 180F are too cold. A 180-195F stat is required.
Cylinder wall wear and fuel consumption increase when below
180F.
