what is the year of this serial number

Does anyone know what year these tractor serial numbers are:
John Deere Serial # 258894 what is the value of each tractor?
John Deere Serial # 277460

Any assistance would be helpful.

John, I am going to guess they are model B tractors. B should be on the tag just ahead of the numbers you posted. If they are B's the 258894 would be a 1950 model. The 277460 is a 1951. Without a picture or more information we can't put a price on them. Do they run? Do they have good tires and sheet metal? Do they have a wide front end? How is the paint?
There is a chance they are AO or AR tractors also. Pictures would sure help.
If you can't post a picture email it to me and I will post it for you.

Does it look anything like this?

You will need to find the ser# range that your numbers fit into. It won't list your specific number, but somewhere between the numbers listed. Do you have a B or AR?

A 1950 serial number will be in the range from 253025 to 275241. The range of a 1951 is 275242 - 293029. Your tags should say B258894 and B277460.

Then one is a 1940 AO or AR and the other is a 1951 AO or AR. The owner don't know what they are?

AR-AO 258894 would have likely been built close to the very end of March 1940 (1940 model). AR-AO 277460 would have been built somewhere around the second week of April 1951 (1951 model). Just a rough estimate based on some known numbers, and some math.
If you want the exact details on each you can contact Two-Cylinder Club to have each serial numbers researched.
Hope this helps.
