What is an original 1972 4020D ps one owner Rops/canopy, WFE, VG rubber, 38" rears, weights front and rear, dual remotes, 5000 org. hrs. Tractor is in VG cond. What is it worth? What would a 1971 as opposed to a 1972 worth?

If I saw the ‘72 in my local paper (eastern corn belt) it would probably have an asking price of $16 to $19K on it. What it would actually sell for, I’m not sure, Larryanderson will know. I don’t think there would be too much difference in price between the 71 and 72, maybe $1K?

I can say $25,000 but unless someone is willing to pay that that's not what it's worth. If I were to find one a grandparent, parent or uncle bought new I'd pay more than someone looking for a tractor to make hay with. Then there is the whole condition and option thing, any documentation of service work or major repairs recently made.

Asking price probably between $15,000 - $20,000

Provided the sheet metal doesn't look like it was used as a battering ram

I'll quote part of what df stated{/quote]Tractor is in VG cond.[/quote]

Original and very good condition mean different things to different people. An original 72 4020 as you descibe will bring 20K+ to the
buyer.Nice originals with known hours are hard too find.72s bring a little more and they are nearly the same with the wide front and a couple of other minor differences.Tractors with power shifts are hard to find period and bring around $2500 more. The HFWA power shifts even though not the greatest bring the most.Tractors over serial number 270000 also are hard to find[only 288 including 4000s].It is a sellers market as there are are very few tractors as you describe.DEEREMEYER1 is exactly right on what a true selling price is.I always think if I think I paid too much and the seller doesnt think he got enough it was probably a fair deal.

Boy I am gonna remember that one. Every deal I make is the same. I always think I paid to much and the seller always thinks he didn"t get enough. I MUST be making fair deals!

You can buy nice 4020s around here all day long around here for $7-8K. The real farmers don't want something that small and without a cab and the hobby farmers want MFWD.
