Ripper for John Deere "A"?

I've been thinking about building a small ripper to run behind my model A but I'm not sure how many shanks I should run. Ideally, I'd like to get one and a half to two feet deep. How many do you think I could run behind a late (with the low first reduction) model A in light soil.
 

I agree...ONE (1)...

Does not sound like much but even one may have you in 1st gear sometimes..
You can always try shifting into 3rd, if you get Bored...
Better have GOOD rear tires and some weights and Loaded tires..
They can really help drainage..just set it Deep...
My fields are pretty level and I run from where the water exits the field, back through the wet areas to let the water get away..or.go down..has drained well for 4 years, now..with no re-use of the Sub-Soiler..

Mounting one on a 3-point would improve traction, I think..

Thanks guys.

I also have an old IHC "Dyrr" mechanical trip sub soiler that I saved from the scrapper. It works excellently but it doesn't have any if the original shanks so I was thinking about rigging it up with three or four shanks. Do you think I could run three at around nine inches deep? It won't be breaking up any sod or roots, just breaking up clean soil between rows in an almond orchard.
